Articles Will Be Added Periodically
—————————————————————————————————————-
We had originally planned to post articles at fairly regular intervals on this web site, primarily to add a little more substance to the Bookshop categories and reviews. Site management complications along with the time required for research and writing has left this ambition unfulfilled. We have now taken an alternative approach. In August 2010 we launched the History Unlimited Blog. The Blog overcomes site management problems by allowing new material to be created independently of the main web site: and ease of posting means that we can tackle larger subjects in serial form, as and when time permits. To test the system a posted a small number of short articles in August and September 2010. These include a ‘History of History’ and a ‘History of Archaeology’, both intended to serve as a brief introduction to what is to follow. In December 2010 we began a new strand of postings which will examine the origins and aftermath of The Seven Years War from perspectives that include the relationship between Church and State and the role of national myths. Newly published posts appear in the order, latest first; indexed articles are listed in ascending order in the Blog Archive to at top right of the page. Substantive articles will be permanently available.
Still on this site: The Megalithic West The emergence of monumental architecture, and its coincidence with the Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages, is a fascinating subject. The arrival of Neolithic agriculturalism on the Atlantic fringe is being pushed back as new dating technologies are brought into play — in 2005 analysis of archaeological evidence suggests that mixed farming was already mature on Orkney by 4000 BCe. The Neolithic heralded a transformation in technology and social organisation that was to accelerate a long history of cultural interchange.
On the Managing Editor’s Web Site … As with History Unlimited, the Barrie Foster & Associates web site will, in the future, post comments, information and articles on a dedicated BFA Blog. The following will remain available on the main web site.
Passing Thoughts on Tourism Marketing Culture and heritage have figured in the thoughts of tourism managers for many years, but if a little gilding of the lily is an acceptable part of tourism marketing this should not compromise credibility.
